Diocletian

Just a teenager addicted to reading anything and everything, but particularly history. I am here as part of the exodus from Goodreads' increasing censorship. I am not yet sure if I am going to leave Goodreads completely, but this is plan B.

The Samurai Invasion of Korea 1592-98 - Stephen Turnbull Good overview of the Imjin War for English speaking readers.

What Germany Forgot

What Germany Forgot - James T. Shotwell An interesting read on the economic situation of pre Nazi Germany. In it, James T. Shotwell makes the argument that the German economy was no where as bad as many people had thought, and that at the time of the Nazi takeover things were actually beginning to stabilize and improve. According to Shotwell, revolutions occur when things are improving (even if only slightly), as otherwise people are too miserable to rebel.
Meditations - Marcus Aurelius, Martin Hammond, Diskin Clay This is an amazing book. If only we had more Stoics like Marcus Aurelius in the world...
Ancient Greece: An Illustrated History (Illustrated National Histories) - Peter Green An enjoyable though concise overview of Ancient Greek history. They should have named this book "Ancient Greece in a nutshell."
Swords Against The Senate: The Rise Of The Roman Army And The Fall Of The Republic - Erik Hildinger A good book on a period of Roman history that unfortunately has been forgotten and, in many aspects, overshadowed by the rise of Julius Caesar.

Mythology

Mythology - Edith Hamilton Good overview of Greco-Roman mythology. It also covers some aspects of Norse mythology, but the section on that is severely lacking.

Manchuria - Cradle of Conflict

Manchuria - Cradle of Conflict - Owen Lattimore An interesting book about an interesting area. Manchuria and the Manchu people have had a lot of influence on the development of modern China, yet by the time this history book/travel journal was written, its culture had been thoroughly turned from Manchu into Chinese. This book ends just as the Second Sino-Japanese War (And then World War II) was about to begin, thus giving a good picture of what Manchuria would have been like before the destruction wrought by this war scarred the land and peoples of not only Manchuria, but all of Eastern China.

Element K CompTIA A+ Certification: A Comprehensive Approach for all 2006 Exam Objectives, Volume 1 (CompTIA A+ Certification, Volume 1)

Element K CompTIA A+ Certification: A Comprehensive Approach for all 2006 Exam Objectives, Volume 1 (CompTIA A+ Certification, Volume 1) - CompTIA I read this book as part of my preparation to take the Comptia A+ exam, and while it's not terrible, it's not exceptional either.
The Twelve Caesars - Suetonius, Michael Grant, Robert Graves A must read for any Roman History fan. It is the gossip tabloid of the ancient world. That does not mean that it is not historical, however, just that much of it is gossip and rumor. Now that I have read this, it is time to read the Secret History by Procopius!

The Seminole Wars 181858 (Men-at-arms)

The Seminole Wars 1818-58 - Ron Field, Richard Hook Good overview of the Seminole Wars, but the main reason for reading this would be the illustrations of the units of the time. If you want a detailed history of the Seminole Wars, this would not be it.

A History of Korea: From Antiquity to the Present

A History of Korea - Michael J. Seth Good book on Korean history for people who don't know much (or anything) about it.
Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community, and War - Nathaniel Philbrick This was a very good book. It doesn't just cover the voyage of the Mayflower and the first Thanksgiving (which is about all I hear about the pilgrims) but it covers all the events leading up to the journey and through to the end of King Philip's War.
Coming Out of the Ice: An Unexpected Life - Victor Herman This book really shows that for all the problems you might have in life, you really have it well off. This is a must read.

EDIT: Interestingly enough, my Dad actually used to work with one of Victor Herman's daughters, Svetlana, and through her he met Victor Herman's widow, Galina, who signed the book for him. I also apparently met Svetlana, though I was just a young child at the time so I sadly don't remember meeting her.
Lost to the West: The Forgotten Byzantine Empire That Rescued Western Civilization - Lars Brownworth The book is basically a brief skim through of Byzantine history, but I must thank it a lot for getting me into Byzantine(Eastern Roman) and Ottoman history.

Vietnam War. America at War.

Vietnam War. America at War. - Maurice Isserman Good overview of the Vietnam War. Not heavily detailed, but what can you expect from such a small book trying to cover so large a subject?
